After long preparation, accompanied by pinched expert looks and skeptical deliberations. Something fantastic happened , it's always fantastic - and it was especially fantastic for me. Something that in its vulnerability only shows its full invincibility to the world. I have become a father! An untouched life has chosen a warm place in my heart and screamed its way to freedom. Gauges were donned, probes stuck, screens pushed, function curves checked, and control tones hummed. Nature doesn't really need that to run free, but it makes the helpers' job easier. And what can nature trigger in a father?
New fathers tend to be emotional - I'm no different. Yes, it's true - as a newly minted father you think differently, material decisions are in the foreground, the priorities in your own life are sorted anew and - please don't forget!!! - the installation functions of the child seat in the car have to be researched on the internet. As a father, one's vision is sharpened, the conscience hovering above things, like an observer from a lookout tower, increases. How will my child live! In which society? In what country? Under what conditions? For many parents, the horizon of life does not burn out over the end of their own lives, but extends to that of their children. In short, as a father you climb the ladder of metaphysical issues and ponder freedom, peace and meaning.
What is freedom?
Unconditionally desirable is the freedom, the inner and outer freedom. The first enables only the second to success. The way to freedom is often accompanied by birth pains, because recognizing the "right" way to freedom requires perseverance and courage. Freedom means NOT TO BE FREE FROM something. So FREE FROM materialconstraints, FREE FROM the risks of life or FREE FROM social norms. This understanding is fundamentally wrong and part of the Socialist reinterpretation of the term. Freedom means the right TO DO SOMETHING. The right to decide, the right to own property, the right to "own a right", the right to one's own person and personality, the right to utilize one ' s work performance and much more.
I write like a politician? No - like a father! I wish freedom for my children! You will have to do your part, because freedom is not a permanent state - not a status quo! It must be taught over and over again. The maxims of freedom must always be defended anew, they must always be repeated anew, because they are always insidiously distorted by the opponents of freedom. The opponents of freedom are ignorance, timidity, irresponsibility, indifference and self-denial! Freedom is endangered like the Mona Lisa, a work by Dürer or the beauties of Claude Monet.
Freedom lives in constant danger of being smeared, cut or destroyed.
Unfortunately, a few strokes with a felt-tip pen or a single paragraph are enough for permanent disfigurement. Reconstructions are costly and lengthy.
For me, no one has put freedom into words better and more beautifully than Albert Schweizer in this text. There would be much more to say about the radiant pride of freedom. However, I would like to prepare the pram for a walk, because today is Father's Day and I will show my daughter the open sky for the first time.
